Why I Love What I Do
Today is the one week anniversary of my website (and this blog). This past week has also brought me good fortune on the job front. I am now working on multiple writing projects that will help students and teachers throughout the country. As a former high school teacher, I couldn't be any prouder of the work I'm doing right now.
Besides the warm and fuzzies I get from my work, there are a lot of other things that I am grateful for every day:
- Round trip commute is 45 feet.
- No traffic on the way to my desk (the dining room table).
- Every day is causal Friday.
- No alarm clocks.
On a more serious note, one of the things I found most beneficial about changing careers is the interactions I have with my bosses (I think I'm up to seven). When I work with someone remotely, I feel so much more at ease than I did going to work every day. As a teacher, I was always worried that even the smallest mistake would cost me everything. (I think the teaching profession breeds this mindset, but that another article.) Now that I can edit and refine my work before anyone sees it, that weight is off my shoulders.
I'm not gonna lie, though, getting started in this line of work was scary. Writing had always been my passion, but it seemed like a pipe dream to make it my career. In December 2015, I didn't know one thing about this business. I've learned a lot over the last 14 months, but I know I still have a long way to go.
So yeah, I'm chalking up this first week as a W. Now it's back to work.
