On Newsstands Today: "At Home in Hokkaido: The North Bay’s Eastern Twin"
Have you ever traveled 5,000 miles by plane and 800 miles by train just to basically end up where you started?
Because that’s what I spent my October doing.
Like many Americans, I used 2023 to plan/go on a trip COVID-19 had delayed for three years. I chose Hokkaido, the most northern of Japan's main islands and home to many cities and sights I found very, very familiar.
The similarities became so great that I decided to turn my trip into a travelogue so that other North Bay residents could learn about a part of the world much like their own.
Finally, kudos to Daedalus Howell at the North Bay Bohemian for publishing my work. I’m happy to be back. :)
